Decorative finishes depend on the hand that applies them, so we never quote one from a photo alone. We make sample boards or paint a test area on your wall, and you see it in your own light before we do the room.
The finishes we are asked for most around Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Potomac are limewash on brick fireplaces and exteriors, Venetian plaster in powder rooms and dining rooms, and texture matching after repairs. That last one is less glamorous but matters: a smooth patch on an orange-peel wall shows forever. Limewash on historic brick counts as painting masonry
Limewash is a coating. On a designated historic property in Montgomery County, putting it on brick that has never been painted falls under the rule that painting unpainted masonry needs a Historic Area Work Permit. In DC, the same applies to historic landmarks. We check your property's status before scheduling.
Limewash needs bare, breathable masonry
Lime bonds by soaking into porous, uncoated brick. It will not bond to painted or sealed brick, which rules out a lot of fireplaces. It also wears gradually by design, and a fresh coat renews it without stripping.
Newer homes need texture matched after repairs
Many homes built since the 1990s in Clarksburg, Urbana and Gaithersburg have lightly textured walls. After a plumbing or electrical repair, a smooth patch stands out under paint. We match the existing texture before painting so the repair disappears.

Does limewash wash off in the rain?
It wears gradually rather than peeling, which is part of its look. Weather-exposed walls soften over several years, and a new coat refreshes them without stripping.
Can Venetian plaster go in a bathroom?
Yes, in powder rooms and on bathroom walls away from direct water, when sealed. We do not recommend it inside showers.
Can you match the texture on my walls?
In most cases, yes. We practice on a board first and match the pattern and scale before working on the wall.
